Clan Macnab Society, Inc

Explanation of new payment options

We recently concluded an arrrangement with PayPal, Inc. to offer the option of paying by credit card for dues, fees, donations and miscel. items. PayPal is a web payment system that utilizes a web site and email to make financial transactions to and from those who use it. It has more than 10 million customers and is designed to serve medium to small sized organizations such as ours. We have pondered using an e-commerce web site, such as that used by large mail order houses, but it was far beyond our reach, expense wise, and the PayPal System gives us almost equal capability for far less cost. Unfortunately, because the cost is very low for this system, there is slightly more inconvenience involved in using PayPal's system. We believe it is still a big advantage, however, especially for our non-U.S. members and applicants.

Having this service now gives our members the advantage of paying in any currency. This has been a problem for our overseas and Canadian members because we could not afford the large conversion fees which our local banks charge for foregn checks and currency and members, both would-be and actual, having to convert to U.S. $ was both a large expense and an inconvenience. We do pay a small charge for using this service but the convenience and safety of using it far outweighs the small fee we pay on each transaction.

International Users.

If you are an International User, please remember to click on the INTERNATIONAL link in order to pay if you live outside the U.S. otherwise the domestic form will come up and you will not be able to complete your transaction.

As always, you may still pay your dues or pay for other items we may offer, such as the Francis Print, Clan History Booklet etc., by U.S.$ check or money order. If you do pay this way, the Society will avoid the small fee which PayPal imposes. However, that said, we are perfectly happy, and in fact encourage you, to use your credit card to pay through the PayPal system. Hopefully, the new payment method will convince many more Macnabs to join us and we will more than make up for the small fees involved.

Explanation about the use of PayPal.

A.) To use PayPal, you must pay by credit card.

B.) Please select the PayPal button that reflects your personal choice when you decide to pay using PayPal and your credit card.

The first button is for those who are already Clan Macnab Society members and who simply want to renew their annual dues. This brings up a box with a $20 amount selected.

The second button is for new members joining prior to June 1. This brings up a box which reflects annual dues of $20 plus the $5, one time administration fee.

The third button is for new members joining on or after June 1. This brings up a box for $20, reflecting the $15 dues for the balance of the current year and $5 admin. fee.

The fourth button is for those who wish to make a donation to our book fund, operating fund or who need to send an amount not covered by the previous buttons. An explanation box is provided which allows you to include comments with this choice of payment. For instance, you might want to pay for more than one year or you might want to contribute to our book fund. This button is the proper choice. Please be sure to tell us what you intend by the use of this button and what the funds are intended for by filling out the comment box. AND/OR you can send us an email ( macnab@macnab.org) to explain your preferences.

C.) There is also a PayPal button located on other pages of the web site. For instance, there is a payment button located on the Francis portrait page which covers the donation for only that particular item. There is another donation button contained in the newsletter for those wishing to donate to the publication of a new Clan Macnab History..... still under development by the Chief. (See the newsletter.)

D.) The PayPal web site has a list of all the countries worldwide where PayPal can be used. The list is too long to include here so please check the PayPal web site (http://www.paypal.com) for that information. There are a few countries where the system cannot be used. However, at last check, we have no members from those areas of the world.

Please note: We do not receive a rebate or fee of any kind from our use of this system. It is merely  an arrangement we have made to make it easier for our members to pay for dues and other items. This system should be especially useful for members and potential members who live outside the U.S. though all are welcome to use it.

The General Secretary would appreciate any comments or suggestions about this new payment system. Questions will be answered as promptly as possible. Just click on the lemail ink to send a esage directly to the General Secretary.
